I've learned it the hard way, resetted the collectors map because I thought I had to when a new cycle started, just to find myself in random spots where I found nothing. Random collector items respawn first after 24 hours, therefore you don't want to reset the collector map before these 24 hours, or all your visited random locations will become unmarked again and you will not know if you've been there already or not. Especially not recommended for all the random (?) digging spots, which will respawn items first after 24 hours of YOU having been there, no matter the ingame map cycle! So, there's an individual count down for every player, independent of the map rota. If you reset it, all your as 'found/removed' marked items will become fully visible again and you won't know any longer, where you've been already. That's another feature in the settings which you could pick: to automatically reset the collector map or not. Pour into glass and watch the color change from deep blue to light purple.
